CLAW Electives:
- Feeding Futures Culinary Arts
Students in this CLAW elective support their peers and the school food program through baking. Work on your culinary skills while helping feed the Grizzlies.
- Video Games and Communication
Explore topics around communication and language through the lens of video games.
- Castles and European History
Take a deep dive into castles, their architecture and the history that shaped them.
- Minecraft Build Challenges
Creative mode only (no gaming). Learn how to build and engineer real-life structures in Minecraft. Tutorials in first term. For your projects, you must pick real-life, school appropriate structures to recreate in Minecraft (castles, game parks, landmarks, ships, etc.).
- Orienteering
Orienteering and geocaching combine the thrill of outdoor exploration with the excitement of finding hidden treasures using maps and GPS. Join the adventure, sharpen your navigation skills, and uncover secrets of the world around you while having fun with friends!
- Social Justice in Film
This CLAW elective considers social justice topics through the lens of film in order to help students make connections between the films and society.
- Themes in Classic Film
Consider important themes in class films that have had an impact on cinema and culture.
- Pilates and Spin Class
Students can keep active in this CLAW as they use the spin bikes and learn Pilates.
- Film Production Reels
Film Production Reels is a class for students who have taken at least one film class previously and are interested in helping make short videos for our school. At times, we will create short reels for IG or to promote a special activity or event in our school. The emphasis is on simple, high-quality shorts that don’t require extensive editing time.
- Nature Journaling
Nature Journaling is an elective that offers students a chance to spend time outdoors while pursuing an interest in place and nature. Students will visit outdoor locations where they will compose poetry, explore inquiry questions and develop cross-curricular connections between Science, Art and Humanities.
- Geometric Math Art
Math for people who love art! A project-based elective that incorporates math into art projects.
- Graphic Production
This CLAW elective is designed to allow students to explore the field of graphic design and produce their own designs that they can turn into fashion.
- Yoga
Students will learn the physical practice of yoga poses and the benefits of breathwork and mindfulness strategies.
- Calligraphy
Students in this CLAW elective have the opportunity to unwind and learn the art of calligraphy.
- Public Speaking
Develop the confidence and skills to engage your audiences in this CLAW elective.
- Podcasting
Explore the art of podcasting. Research, prepare, and produce podcasts using the podcasting lab.
- Handbells
Learn the art of working together, learning a new instrument, and reading music in handbells. The handbell is an ensemble instrument perfect for experienced musicians and those new to music alike.
- Inclusive PHE
A fun way to keep active outside of the typical PE experience. Students will explore in-school and community-based recreation activities.
- Siege of the Castle: Trebuchet Build
Students have the opportunity to explore concepts in physics and medieval design as they build their own trebuchets.
- Circuit Training and Fitness
Keep active and support your fitness through circuit training.
- Rock Climbing and Bouldering
Keep active and have fun with rock climbing. Students in this CLAW elective go to Project Climbing each week. Students are required to have a Project Climbing membership. $375.00 for a Wednesday-only pass or $500.00 for an unlimited pass (September to June).
- The Art of War: Special Topics in Military History
This offering is a look at warfare through the ages based on the writings of the famous Chinese military tactician Sun Tzu. Students will study Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Napoleon. We also look at the modern-day Vietnam War.
- Special Topics in Fashion and Textiles
This CLAW elective offers students an opportunity to take a deep dive into an area of fashion and textiles of their own choosing.
- Novel Writing
Calling aspiring authors! Collaborate with fellow writers to workshop your writing and create the novel you’ve always wanted to write.
- History through Film
Explore history through the lens of film in this engaging elective, where students analyze how movies depict historical events, figures, and
eras. By comparing films to historical sources, students will develop critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of how media
shapes our perception of the past.
