GROUPS AND CLUBS


BE THE CHANGE TEAM

Purpose of this Club:

To make a positive difference in both the local and global community through service projects, fundraisers, etc. Many group members attend “We Day” in the fall to kick off our year of service projects.

 

TECH GIRLS CLUB

Day and Time: 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month, 3 PM - 4 PM, (extra time available in advisory & lunch T-Th), all year (except Dec, Mar, Jun).

Purpose of this Club:

Open to girls in all grades (you don't have to be a tech student or in Ms Cho's class). Wearable tech, virtual reality (e.g. 3D painting), robots (play or build), electronics kits, any new tech Ms Cho finds during the year. On off-weeks, you can go to the library to explore even more fun tech with Ms MacConnell.

 

KIWANIS KEY CLUB

Day and time: Every Tuesday at lunch

Purpose of this Club:

Students sign up for and participate in community events such as volunteering at soup kitchens, FVRL reading buddies, etc.

 

GAMES CLUB

Day and time: Fridays at lunch

Purpose of this Club:

Having fun and playing games - we have an XBOX, PS3, Retro NES, computers, foosball and board games.

 

GRAHAM ROBOTICS

Day and time: 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month, 3 PM - 4 PM, (extra time in advisory & lunch T-Th), first semester (except Dec)

Purpose of this Club:

Three robotics teams (2 teams of boys, 1 team of girls who will represent GW Graham at two tournaments in Vancouver (mid-October, November). Students will build & program robots, maintain an engineering notebook, scout competitors' robots & decide strategy, drive robots during tournaments. Many hours will be involved. Must be in Robotics 10 or Tech Girls Club.

 

THE CAVE CAFÉ

Day and time: Second semester. Choice of shifts Tuesdays to Thursdays. Staff meetings & training are Mondays in advisory.

Purpose of this Club:

The Cave Café opens morning & lunch, Tuesdays to Thursdays. It serves hot & cold beverages, and Freshii wraps. There's also an espresso machine. It's managed & operated by Entrepreneurship 11 students (who train as baristas) but we also take dedicated volunteers. Each shift can count as half an hour for Work Experience 12 or Grad Transitions.

 

E-SPORTS

Day and time: Fridays at lunch, April to June

Play Smash Brothers, Mario Kart on the Wii-U. Eight joysticks are available.

 

ANIME CLUB

Day and time: Tuesday/Friday, 2;45-3:30

Anime appreciation.  We watch, discuss and draw anime/manga

 

SEWING CLUB

Day and time: Mondays, 2:45-4:00pm

Purpose of this Club:

Personal projects, quilts, projects for donation or to support a good cause, occasionally we do a bit of cupcake decorating

Learn about and create different objects using the material and tech in the maker space. 

 

CREATIVE WRITING CLUB

Discuss writing and learn about and practice writing techniques.

GSA (GENDER SEXUALITY ALLIANCE)

Day and time: Every Friday at lunch

Purpose of this Club: To support all people, regardless of their age, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation. Our values are: NO JUDGEMENT, EQUALITY, EMPATHY, AND CARING of all people. We want to end bullying, discrimination and hateful language. Our goal is to create a culture at GW Graham that celebrates diversity, compassion, and positive change in the community.

 

JUNIOR GIRLS GROUP

Day and time: Every Wednesday during Advisory/Lunch (with teacher permission)

Purpose of this Club: This group is open to all Grade 8/9 girls at GWG. We meet and discuss issues faced by young girls today, we participate in activities to create awareness, and build closer relationships with other girls, and we learn healthy ways to become positive young women in our school and community. A focus is on Self-Esteem building, Healthy Relationships, and Assertive Communication.

 

SENIOR GIRLS GROUP

Day and time: Every Monday during Advisory/Lunch (with teacher permission)

Purpose of this Club: This group is open to all Grade 8/9 girls at GWG. SPOKEN WORD CLUB

Purpose of this Club:

This is a tight knit group of students that will write and share their own poetry and creative pieces.

 

JUNIOR ROBOTICS CLUB

Day and time: Thursdays at lunch

Purpose of this Club:

Students have the opportunity to work in groups with VEX IQ robotics systems, designing and programming robots to complete numerous tasks. This is for any age student who is not in Mrs. Cho's robotics classes. Group is limited to 15 students currently.

 

SKILLS CLUB

Purpose of this Club:

Skills club is for students from grades 8-10 who want to design and build either/or gravity race cars, or tethers sumo robots with a chance to compete in Skills Canada Competitions this coming spring.

 

MASK TROUPE

Purpose of this Club:

To create masks and develop characters and scenes and then perform a show.
